More than 129,000 foster children need adoptive families. Your donation helps us find loving parents for these children, support adoptive families and raise adoption awareness.
Why do we exist?
CHILDREN NEED FAMILIES In North America, tens of thousands of foster children and youth who can no longer live safely with their families are waiting for a permanent, loving family. These children, often labeled unadoptable or hard to place, are mostly school aged. They are often brothers and sisters who must be placed together, and many have serious physical, mental, or emotional challenges. Many are children of color. All of them need and deserve a family.
Without a permanent family, foster children and youth may be moved from one home to another and be separated from their brothers and sisters. They too often change schools and neighborhoods, and must cope with new caregivers, teachers, rules, and friends. Each year, more than 20,000 foster youth leave care without a permanent family. These young people are at higher risk of teen pregnancy, homelessness, and unemployment. Many have no one to spend holidays with, no one to be grandparents to their children, and no mom or dad to guide them through the joys and challenges of everyday growing and living.
NACAC CREATES BRIGHTER FUTURES A nonprofit organization founded in 1974 by adoptive parents, NACAC is dedicated to the belief that each child and youth has the right to a permanent, nurturing, and culturally sensitive family. NACAC’s mission is clear: NACAC promotes and supports permanent families for children and youth in the United States and Canada who have been in care – especially those in foster care and those with special needs. NACAC is committed to meeting the needs of waiting children and the families who adopt them.
What have you accomplished?
“We knew to come back to NACAC because after over ten years of getting assistance from you, it always proved to be current and accurate information…” an adoptive parent.
An adoptive parent’s comment regarding her training experience: “I can honestly say this experience is going to change my life and hopefully the lives of many other families. My battery and my passion have been charged.”
An adoption advocacy trainee said, “This experience provided me with a great opportunity to grow personally in my knowledge and effectiveness in advocating for children, as well as to be able to better effect change at the local, state and federal level.”
